Julia Fischer, Auckland

Julia has been with our family for over 8 months and helps me care for my 4 children; aged 3,5,7 and 10. As a single parent, especially a male, Julia has assumed a lot more responsibility than most Au Pairs. Not only does Julia look after the children, she is always doing more around the house which ensures a smooth running household and a happy content family. My job takes me away from Auckland several times a year. Recently Julia singlehandedly ran the household as well as cared for my 4 young, and often difficult, children by herself for over 2 weeks while I was in the UK. Not only did she do a superb job, when I got back I was greeted with a load of crafts, artwork as well as homemade, hand painted Easter eggs. The house looked better than it ever, she also managed to feed and entertain all the children for well under the amount I would normally spend. Julia has a real gift with photography, and for Christmas she put together a book of her favourite photos of my children. The photos are amazing and I have to say this is one of the best gifts I have ever received and will always treasure it. Julia is always thinking of the children and putting them first, she has taken the initiative and is always taking the children on fun adventures when I am not here. Rose attends a local playgroup with her every week and until recently visited the library every week for story time. While we have had other great Au Pairs, Julia really stands out as being one who is very patient and calm, I often don’t know how she manages to control herself when the children push the boundaries. Julia has gained the respect and love of all of us and we are now at that horrible place where we are having to look for a replacement and none of us are looking forward to the time she waves us goodbye.
