DISCOVER. Earth Day activities
Friday, 21 April 2017

Earth
Day is on April 22nd, 2017 and this is a day
to demonstrate support for environmental protection. As
more become aware about the environment, it's important to teach
our tamariki about how to protect and sustain it as well as what
impact we are having.
To start this exercise, we've found a list of 5 activities
you can try with your children. Click on the images for
instructions.

1. Recycled bird feeder - Let your children
watch the birds as they come and try the seeds in your bird feeder.
You can make this out of used plastic bottle or container.
2. Design your own tote - Are your children
the creative type? Let them design a tote bag and teach them to use
tote bags rather than plastic.
3. Homemade Windchimes - Have you got some
tin cans lying around? Upcycle them and make windchimes. You can
decorate them and hear them jingle in the wind.

4. Earth Day Scavenger Hunt - Go exploring with a
list of natural things to spot. You can create a list for your
child and watch them tick it off as they find each treasure.
5. Rainbow Crayons - Have you got little bits of
crayon lying around not being used? Make a multicoloured crayon and
it'll be like brand new. Give it a go!
These a just a few activities you can try. There's loads
more if you go looking for it. Upcycling and reusing items is a
great, fun way to teach your children the value of different items
and how they can make a positive impact in the world.
