DISCOVER. It's RECYCLING WEEK!
Sunday, 6 November 2016

New Zealand is known for being clean and green but there are
always areas where we can improve to help keep it that way. There
are many ways to reuse, reduce and recycle to help make the
environment more sustainable and waste free. A great idea to
nurture this awareness in children is to upcycle materials that may
have ended up as rubbish.
We have compiled an upcycling activity for every day of the week
that you can try at home. These might inspire you to create some of
your own and improve recycling habits for the whole family!

Try yourself at making a milk jug toss. This game comes from the
classic, much loved game of cup-and-ball! With simple materials you
can find around the house, it will make a fun activity to kick
start your Recycling Week.
It's time to make some noise and explore the senses with this
homemade kazoo. The children will have fun making noise all day
long so be warned... There are many variations to this creation so
why not get creative and try them all!
Are your children getting bored of the same old brush and paper?
This might get them excited! It's a simple upcycling trick, get
your collection of milk bottle lids and some foam or
felt.
A great start to a role-play exercise where your children's
exploration of creativity can get endless. The first part is
creating the dollhouse, the second part is playing with
it!
Summer is just around the corner and it's a perfect time to play
with...bubbles! Who doesn't love bubbles? This upcycled creation is
really easy and will be loved by children of all ages.
Spring = flowers! The girls will especially love this activity.
Get artsy and crafty with these spring flowers made from egg
cartons. You can use leftover beads and paints and whatever else
lying around the house. Get creative!
End your lovely weekend with some fun in the garden. Build this
on the garden fence and your children can experiment with physics,
engineering and science in general. What a fun project!
