How do I Apply to become an Au Pair OE?
STEP 1. The first step is to apply online. It’s free to apply! You are not required to complete our full online application - only the initial 1 page online application form is required for our Au Pair OE programme.
STEP 2. Au Pair Link will contact you by e-mail or phone to provide you with more information about the options and programmes available, the application process and answer any questions that you may have.
STEP 3. To complete your full application form, please download and complete one of the following Au Pair OE application forms (see below) and send it to aupairoe@aupairlink.co.nz. Please note that you are required to select your preferred destination and programme option as our application forms are specific to each country.
The Au Pair USA and Au Pair China full application forms above include all the required documentation and associated forms to support your application as an Au Pair in the USA or China. Au Pair Link’s application forms above (for our programmes in for Germany, France, United Kingdom and Australia) are in 2 separate documents that both must be downloaded and completed as part of our application process to become an Au Pair in Germany, France, the United Kingdom or Australia.
STEP 4. When you are completing your full application form (see Step 3 above) you will also be required to collect documents to support your application. Supporting documentation can vary between the country and programme option that you choose but typically includes the following:
- A “Dear Host Family” letter or essay about yourself and why you want to become an Au Pair (approximately 1 to 2 A4 pages and to be written in a personal manner as if writing directly to a family)
- Photos of you interacting with children (approximately 5-10 photos)
- A passport photo of you
- Childcare references
- Character references
- Childcare Experience Form
- Police record
- Medical certificate
- School leaving certificates & diploma
- Photocopy of your driver’s license
- Photocopy of your passport.
There is a handy checklist in each programme application form that outlines all the documentation required for you to become an Au Pair overseas. Once you have completed your full application form and associated supporting documentation to become an Au Pair overseas, please scan and email your full application form and supporting documentation to aupairoe@aupairlink.co.nz.
STEP 5. After we have received full application form and associated supporting documentation, we will book an interview with you to be conducted by one of our local area representatives. This interview will typically take 30 minutes (up to a maximum of 1 hour) and is necessary to understand your requirements in order to match you with the right Host Family. During this interview we will ask you about your background, motivation for becoming an Au Pair, your childcare experience, foreign language skills etc.
STEP 6. After the interview, the application process is complete. We will then send your candidate profile and information to our relevant partner agency (in the country where you wish to go) for them to begin matching you with appropriate Host Families.
After your application
After we have sent your profile to our relevant partner agency, potential Host Families get to view your profile (not your medical and police records as we keep that information private) and you may be contacted by them directly within just a few days. If you and the Host Family are well suited and if you agree to the match, these are the general steps for you to take:
Note: Please keep in mind that it can take 6 to 12 weeks before you get matched. The time taken for a match depends on the number of Host Families looking for an Au Pair, the time of year etc.
STEP 7. Once you have matched with a Host Family and you have accepted an "offer of placement", we will help you to:

STEP 8. Au Pair Link will then send you a secure link for you to make an online payment for the associated programme/package fee. Please refer to the country and programme options to see what's included and what it costs.
