Your Safety

One of the most important aspects to consider when you are preparing to become an Au Pair is your safety. Two of the key things that you need to decide upon are:

  • What country do you want to be an Au Pair in?
  • And what Au Pair agency will you use – if any?

Our advice is to carefully think about how safe your intended destination is. Remember that you are not just going for a brief visit; you will be living in the country of your choice for a whole year! So it is important that you make the right decision.

New Zealand is a developed country with high health and education standards. New Zealand is widely considered as one of the safest and most politically stable countries in the world. In fact, Auckland (the largest city in New Zealand) has consistently rated as one of the most desirable cities in the world to live in. Over a period of time, we have observed a dramatic change in which countries Au Pairs travel to as a result of terror attacks and other such international incidents. New Zealand is becoming an increasingly popular destination due to its stability, openness and natural beauty.

When you choose an Au Pair agency you should consider things like; will you receive ongoing support, is the agency accredited and internationally recognised and what do they charge? Au Pair Link provides complete and ongoing support throughout your stay in New Zealand. We are also a full member of the International Au Pair Association and a member of the World Youth Student and Educational travel confederation – which means that we must meet minimum standards and comply with international regulations. Lastly, we do not charge any agency fees for our Au Pairs!

At Au Pair Link your safety is our business. Whilst New Zealand is a safe, honest and friendly country it is important to always stay safety conscious during your travels. Some helpful advice is:

  • If you are going travelling – always provide a copy of your travel plans to a friend, your Host Family or Au Pair Link
  • Always travel in groups or with other people
  • Always bring a mobile phone and make sure that you have phone coverage
  • Always book a hotel room or backpackers, never sleep in a car or van
  • Be smart and avoid dark alleys, unknown places or parks
