Au Pair Mate Programme
The Au Pair Mate programme is designed specifically for families with children older than 5 years of age (or children who are attending school). Children over 5 years of age typically get the social interaction and educational support they need from attending school. As a result the childcare requirements for families with children over 5 years of age are unique. Our Au Pair Mate programme recognises the different childcare requirements for school aged children.
An Au Pair Mate is more like an older sister or brother and they will often share similar interests with your family. Whether it is playing soccer, riding horses, teaching piano or even another language – we can find the right Au Pair Mate for your family.
The Au Pair Mate programme is available nationwide. If your youngest child is under 5 years of age you cannot enrol in the Au Pair Mate programme (unless you reside in an Au Pair Link Ministry of Education unlicensed region) – please refer to our Au Pair 123 programme instead. The Au Pair Mate programme is based on a standard 12 month placement term, however, a minimum placement term of 6 months is available.
Please download a copy of our Au Pair Mate programme benefits - this document outlines information on the services we provide as part of the Au Pair Mate programme and the relevant benefits for you and your children. Au Pairs in the Mate programme must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 30
- Have at least 100 hours of practical child care experience (not including immediate family members)
- Speak English to an acceptable standard
- Successfully pass our screening process including references, English test, personality test, medical and police records checked
- Successfully complete our orientation course in New Zealand including CPR training from St John and childcare lessons.
The Au Pair Mate wage, paid by the family to their Au Pair, is $120 per week for a maximum of 20 hours work per week (excluding PAYE tax) up to a maximum of $200 per week for a maximum of 45 hours work per week (excluding PAYE tax).
