Orientation and Training
Au Pair Link is the only Au Pair agency in New Zealand that provides a full orientation programme and ongoing training for our Au Pairs. Upon arriving in New Zealand our Au Pairs undertake a mandatory 3 day orientation and training course held in Auckland.
The course will help your Au Pair acclimatise in New Zealand so they are ready to care for your children from day one in your family. Moreover, our orientation course gives valuable and potentially life saving information to your Au Pair. Essentially, orientation provides your Au Pair with the tools necessary to help prepare them for the year ahead.
Our orientation programme includes:
- 2 nights hotel accommodation in Auckland including all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
- Child first aid course – conducted by St John, this is a practical course and teaches CPR and choking management along with providing information about handling common childhood injuries and medical conditions. Topics covered include; burns, poisoning, asthma, control of bleeding and Meningococcal disease
- Driving lessons - theoretical driving lessons conducted by a professional driving instructor.
- Child care lessons – conducted by a qualified Early Childhood Education teacher. Also includes an introduction to Te Whāriki, the Ministry of Education programme that provides activities for children to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes that support them to become confident learners
- An introduction to being an Au Pair in New Zealand – including housekeeping tips, home-economics, English lessons, Kiwi jargon ...and so much more!
- Over and above this initial 3 day orientation course, as part of our Au Pair 123 programme, your Au Pair will also receive ongoing child care training throughout the year by a qualified Early Childhood Education teacher.
Having completed our comprehensive orientation course, you and your family can have confidence in your Au Pair and know that your children will be safe in their care. Please note that your family is required to pick up your Au Pair from Orientation in Auckland or provide them with a one-way ticket to travel to your home in New Zealand.
