Moa Hult (Sweden) - September 2017
Moa isn't just the children's carer but she is also their
teacher and sometimes nurse.
We have two boys, Sam and James. Sam has just turned two
but he was born very early so in some ways he is still a baby, and
he has a few challenges. In particular he can be difficult to
feed and you need the patience of a saint - picture food being spat
out, snuck to the dog or blatantly thrown at your face. Moa
is always so calm; distracting him and trying different foods to
make sure he eats a good amount. He also finds winter tough
and has basically had a cold the whole time. This is harder
for Sam because of his prematurity and therefore any little cold
really knocks him around. He'll be tired, grizzly and even
harder to get food into! Moa has been so caring with him,
giving all his medications right on time and snuggling on the couch
if that's all he's up for. On top of all that, we also need to
focus on Sam's development. Moa has been so up for the
challenge! She'll really work with him during the day and we
know this is working as many days we'll come home and Sam will have
a new word!
With James, our nearly 4 year old, Moa has built a fun and
lovely relationship with him so quickly - which is impressive as
he's not the biggest fan of new people and can take a while to
trust other adults. James was going to day care 4 days a week
so that Moa could primarily focus on Sam, but early on Moa was keen
to have more time with James as well, so we've reduced his days at
day care so he has Wednesday at home. This has been great for
James as he then gets a break from day care during the week and
enjoys new experiences and meeting other children at the play
group. James is a real Mummy's boy and is still clingy at
drop off at day care and for the first few times of him staying
with Moa I'd have to pry him off my legs - now he just looks up and
says Bye!!! This is amazing as shows the great relationship
they have and how his confidence has grown. He really looks
forward to his Moa days.
Overall it's Moa's continued positivity that is so
wonderful. Every day when I get home and ask how her day has
been she says "Great" - and she means it. Moa writes really
great summaries in the family handbook so I always know how the
boys have been. And it's really evident that she actively
spends all day with them playing and working on their goals.
Not only that, but the house is always clean, tidy and dinner for
us prepped - which is far more than I can say for when I'm at
home!
We really appreciate Moa and trust her completely with our
children.
